A tragic boat accident near the Beira Port in Mozambique has claimed the lives of three Indian nationals, while five others remain missing, according to information shared by the Indian High Commission in Maputo.

The incident took place on Friday during a routine crew transfer operation to an offshore tanker. The boat, carrying 14 Indian crew members, overturned under unclear circumstances. The exact cause of the capsize is still under investigation.

Following the accident, rescue operations were launched immediately. Five Indians were rescued, one of whom is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Beira.

The Indian High Commission has confirmed that it is coordinating closely with local authorities and maritime agencies to trace the missing individuals. The mission has also extended full assistance to the families of the deceased and expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives.

In a statement, the High Commission said:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of three Indian nationals in the boat accident near Beira Port. We are in touch with the families of the victims and are providing all possible assistance.”
