Meta has issued an apology after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video was unexpectedly removed from Facebook, saying the content was taken down due to a technical error. The social media giant has now restored the video following widespread criticism and objections from the Central Government.

The controversy erupted last week when a video shared by Prime Minister Modi, addressing India’s youth and students amid the ongoing student protests in Delhi, suddenly disappeared from Facebook. The unexpected removal sparked political reactions and raised questions over the platform’s content moderation practices.
Responding to the backlash, a Meta spokesperson clarified that the video had been blocked by mistake and was never intentionally removed.
“The video was removed due to a technical error. It has now been restored, and we regret the mistake,” the spokesperson said.
The incident drew strong reactions from several senior political leaders, while the Central Government also reportedly objected to the removal, demanding an explanation from the company.
The approximately three-minute video, posted around midnight on Thursday, featured Prime Minister Modi speaking directly to students and young people against the backdrop of nationwide protests. During his address, he assured citizens that the government was treating paper leak cases and examination-related irregularities with utmost seriousness and was committed to ensuring fairness in the education system.
With the video now back on Facebook, Meta has maintained that the incident resulted solely from an internal technical issue and not from any deliberate content moderation decision.
