The attack has once again raised serious concerns over the security of migrant workers in Kashmir. Following the incident, security forces have intensified search operations across the region and placed the security apparatus in South Kashmir on high alert.

One of the victims, identified as Deepak, died on the spot after being hit in the firing. The second worker, identified as Bhupinder, sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College in Anantnag.

Doctors at the Anantnag hospital reportedly performed an emergency surgery on Bhupinder in an attempt to save his life. Considering the seriousness of his condition, he was subsequently shifted to a hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.

However, despite the medical team’s efforts, Bhupinder succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment. With his death, the number of migrant workers killed in the Kulgam terror attack has risen to two.

The incident has created an atmosphere of fear among migrant workers and local residents in South Kashmir. Security forces have launched an intensified search operation to identify and track down the terrorists involved in the attack.

Omar Abdullah Announces Financial Assistance

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief over the deaths of the two workers and extended condolences to their families.

The Chief Minister announced ₹10 lakh financial assistance each for the families of the deceased workers.

The government and security agencies are closely monitoring the situation as investigations into the attack continue.

Second Major Terror Attack in July

The Kulgam incident is being seen as the second major terror-related attack in July.

Earlier, on July 22, terrorists allegedly shot dead a Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel serving with the Special Task Group (STG) in Anantnag city.

The latest attack is also significant because it is being reported as the first attack on migrant workers in Kashmir since October 2024.

The two incidents within a short span have prompted security agencies to strengthen surveillance and counter-terror operations across South Kashmir.

Migrant Workers Targeted at Close Range

According to the information available about the incident, both workers were working in the Kilam area when the terrorists allegedly opened fire at them from close range.

Deepak suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, while Bhupinder was critically wounded.

After receiving initial treatment in Anantnag, Bhupinder was shifted to Srinagar for specialised medical care. However, his condition remained critical and he eventually died during treatment.

The deaths have once again highlighted the vulnerability of migrant workers working in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and raised fresh concerns over their safety.

Security forces have now intensified operations in the area in an effort to locate the attackers and prevent further incidents.
