Internal Strife in NCP? Objection Raised Over Sunetra Pawar’s Appointment as National President

Pune | Following the passing of the late leader Ajit Pawar, the reins of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were handed over to Sunetra Pawar. However, her appointment is now being challenged from within the party. Sachidanand Singh, the former National Secretary of the NCP, has issued a legal notice contesting Sunetra Pawar’s presidency. Singh claims that the National Executive meeting held on February 26 was invalid.

“I acknowledge Sunetra Pawar as the party chief. However, the election conducted during the National Executive meeting was not held in accordance with the party’s legal procedures; it violated the party’s constitution. There were flaws in the election process, and I am urging for this error to be rectified to prevent future complications for the party. I had previously written to the party leadership regarding this matter. I attended the convention but had pointed out that the election method was improper. Since there was no response to my letter even after three months, I issued a legal notice,” said Sachidanand Singh.

He further added, “The party’s election symbol is currently the subject of a dispute before the Supreme Court. Therefore, to avoid any potential action against us by the Election Commission, I have issued notices to Sunetra Pawar, Praful Patel, and Brijmohan Srivastava.”

“I had previously urged—via a letter—that the meeting held for the presidential appointment was improper. This was because no CWC (Central Working Committee) meeting had taken place prior to it. Furthermore, the constitution adopted at the Mumbai convention was never submitted to the Election Commission. There has been a misuse of Article 29. Given these circumstances, I had called for corrections to be made, but received no reply to my letter; nor was I informed that the letter had been rejected.

As I received no response, I have issued this notice in my capacity as the former National Secretary of the party,” he clarified. “I issued this notice to ensure that outsiders do not take advantage of the party’s shortcomings. I had also been in constant communication with the party’s National General Secretary, Brijmohan Srivastava, but received no answer to my questions from him either. That is why I have taken legal action,” he further clarified.
