New Delhi:
As the holiday season approaches, many families are planning Christmas and New Year trips. The Indian Railways has issued a reminder regarding ticket booking rules for children to help passengers plan better.

According to the Railway Ministry’s circular (dated March 6, 2020):

  • Children below 5 years can travel free of cost, but they are not allotted a separate berth or seat. They must share the berth with parents or guardians.

  • If parents wish to book a separate berth for a child under 5, they must pay the full adult fare.

  • For children between 5 and 12 years, a half-ticket can be purchased if no separate berth is required. However, if a berth or seat is requested, the full fare applies.

  • Children aged 12 and above are considered adults and must pay the full fare.

Passengers can easily book tickets through the IRCTC website or mobile app and are advised to select the correct passenger category during the booking process to avoid fare discrepancies.
