With the emphatic win, India extended its remarkable unbeaten streak against Pakistan to nearly a decade. The victory also marked India’s second consecutive triumph over Pakistan within four days after edging their rivals 4-3 at the same venue on June 23.
Pakistan made a bright start to the contest, taking the lead in the 13th minute through Abu Mahmood, who found the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 advantage.
However, India responded brilliantly and completely dominated the remainder of the match. Sukhjeet Singh restored parity with a field goal in the 20th minute, before captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner in the 26th minute to hand India a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
The match also witnessed an unfortunate moment when Pakistan’s Ahmed Nadeem suffered a serious eye injury during the second quarter. He received immediate medical attention on the field before being stretchered off.
India stepped up another gear in the second half, tearing apart Pakistan’s defence with a relentless attacking display.
Hardik Singh scored in the 34th minute, followed by Jugraj Singh in the 35th minute, Abhishek in the 41st minute, and Rajkumar Pal in the 44th minute, extending India’s lead to an unassailable 6-1.
Dilpreet Singh completed the rout with another goal in the 54th minute, sealing a memorable 7-1 victory for the Indian team.
India’s Decade of Dominance Over Pakistan
India’s dominance over Pakistan has been remarkable over the last decade. In the previous 19 meetings between the two teams, India has won 17 matches, while two games ended in draws. Pakistan has failed to register a single victory during this period.
India’s unbeaten run against Pakistan began on April 12, 2016, during the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Pakistan’s last victory over India came during the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati, and since then, the Indian team has maintained complete supremacy over its traditional rivals.
