India began the three-match T20I series in dominant fashion, defeating Zimbabwe by seven wickets with 40 balls to spare in the opening match at the Harare Sports Club. The emphatic victory handed India a 1-0 lead in the series, with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stealing the spotlight on his international debut.

The 15-year-old left-handed batter announced his arrival on the international stage by smashing a breathtaking 50 off just 19 balls, becoming the youngest male cricketer in history to score an international fifty across Tests, ODIs and T20Is. His fearless stroke play ensured India chased down the target of 126 runs comfortably in just 13.2 overs, losing only three wickets.
Earlier, India’s disciplined bowling attack completely dismantled Zimbabwe’s batting line-up. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, India struck immediately as Mayank Yadav dismissed Brian Bennett on the very first delivery of the match after a successful DRS review overturned the on-field decision.
Zimbabwe’s top order collapsed under relentless pressure. Prince Yadav removed Ben Curran (10), while Mayank sent back Dion Myers (6), reducing the hosts to 20/3. Captain Sikandar Raza also failed to make an impact, departing for just 4 runs, leaving Zimbabwe reeling at 32/4.
A fighting partnership between Ryan Burl (26) and Wesley Madhevere briefly steadied the innings before Ravi Bishnoi broke the stand. Madhevere then added a valuable 57-run partnership with wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani, who remained unbeaten on 27, helping Zimbabwe recover to 125/7 in 20 overs.
Madhevere top-scored with 39 runs off 34 balls, including three boundaries and a six.
India’s bowling attack was led by Mayank Yadav (2/18) and Prince Yadav (2/19), while Ravi Bishnoi and Shivam Dube claimed one wicket each.
Chasing 126, India never looked under pressure as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive batting made the target look effortless. His record-breaking debut innings has already earned him a place in cricket history and given India the perfect start to the series.
