Housing Society Takes Major Step Towards Energy Self-Reliance: MLA Shankar Jagtap
575 kW Solar Project Inaugurated at 7 Plumeria Drive, Punawe; Significant Reduction in Electricity Costs Expected

Pimpri-Chinchwad | Prioritizing sustainable development and eco-friendly policies, MLA Shankar Jagtap led the inauguration of a 575 kW solar energy project at the 7 Plumeria Drive Housing Society in Punawe. The initiative marks a significant step towards energy self-reliance for the society and sets an example for other residential complexes in the city.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the society’s President Dr. Ganesh Bhame, Secretary Shivraj Harale, Treasurer Dhananjay Pathak, all members of the Federation Committee, and residents.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Shankar Jagtap said, “This solar energy project at the housing society level is a crucial milestone in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s journey towards energy self-sufficiency. Other societies in the city are expected to adopt similar initiatives. The project will significantly reduce electricity costs—from the current ₹9–10 lakh annually to just ₹50,000–1 lakh—providing relief against future price hikes and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.”

Spread over a 10-acre area, the society comprises 950 flats and approximately 3,000 residents. The project, developed with community participation, involved an investment of ₹2.5 crore, with ₹40 lakh subsidy support and ₹10 lakh sanctioned from the MLA fund. It contributes to long-term energy planning, sustainable development, and environmental protection by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
MLA Jagtap added, “This initiative aligns with the central and state government’s green and clean energy policies. If more housing societies take such steps, cities can move closer to becoming energy self-sufficient.”
Reaction:
“This solar energy project serves as a benchmark for other housing societies in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune district, and across Maharashtra. It demonstrates a practical step toward sustainable, eco-friendly living, supporting the vision of a smart and metropolitan city. Such projects will inspire other societies to adopt green energy solutions,” said MLA Shankar Jagtap.
