Forensic Science Student Plots ‘Filmy-Style’ Murder of Boyfriend; Burns Body to Stage Accident
A shocking case in Delhi’s Gandhi Vihar — a forensic science student, with help from her ex-boyfriend and an LPG agent, strangled her live-in partner and set his flat ablaze to make it look like an accident.
New Delhi:
In a chilling crime that stunned even the police, a forensic science student has been arrested for allegedly murdering her live-in partner in a meticulously planned act inspired by her own knowledge of crime and investigation techniques. The incident took place in Delhi’s Gandhi Vihar area.
The deceased, Ramkesh Meena (32), a UPSC aspirant, was found dead in his apartment, charred beyond recognition. His 21-year-old live-in partner, Amrita Chauhan, who was pursuing a B.Sc. in Forensic Science, initially claimed that the death was caused by an electrical short circuit or an air conditioner blast.
However, the Delhi Police grew suspicious after examining the half-burnt body and the condition of the apartment. Forensic clues and CCTV footage later revealed the horrific truth — Meena had been murdered before the fire.
According to the investigation, Amrita was upset after discovering that Meena had secretly recorded her private videos and refused to delete them despite repeated requests. Furious, she confided in her former boyfriend Sumit Kashyap (27) and plotted to eliminate Meena with his help.
Together with Sumit and his friend Sandeep Kumar (29), an LPG distributor, Amrita visited Meena’s flat. The trio strangled Meena to death, poured ghee, oil, and alcohol on the body, and opened the gas cylinder valve to cause an explosion — staging the scene as an accident. Before fleeing, they locked the flat from inside using a small hole in the iron gate to avoid suspicion.
Police tracked the culprits using CCTV footage that showed two masked men and a woman entering the building, followed by an explosion minutes after they left. Mobile location data and call records further confirmed Amrita’s presence at the crime scene.
The Delhi Police arrested Amrita Chauhan, Sumit Kashyap, and Sandeep Kumar. They also seized a hard disk, trolley bag, Meena’s shirt, and two mobile phones. All three have been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence and are currently in police custody.
Police officials, including DCP (North Delhi) Raja Banthia, described the case as “one of the most disturbing and well-planned murders” in recent times, emphasizing how Amrita’s forensic background was used to stage the crime scene as an accident.
