Fadnavis Slashes Fuel Costs, Cuts Ministers’ Foreign Tours
Massive austerity push in Maharashtra! CM Devendra Fadnavis halves convoy vehicles, restricts air travel, cancels foreign tours, and pushes ministers toward public transport to save fuel, power, and public money.
Fadnavis Govt Launches Aggressive Cost-Cutting Drive
Mumbai: Responding strongly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and reduced foreign currency expenditure, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has rolled out a sweeping austerity campaign across the state administration.
In a major administrative shake-up, the Maharashtra government has decided to slash the number of vehicles in the convoys of the Chief Minister and all ministers by 50 percent with immediate effect. The decision was finalized during two high-level review meetings held in Mumbai on Wednesday in the presence of the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and senior government officials.
Strict Orders On Convoys And Official Travel
Under the new directives issued by CM Devendra Fadnavis, convoy vehicles accompanying ministers during official tours must remain within the newly prescribed limit. Responsibility for implementation has been handed directly to district Superintendents of Police and Police Commissioners.

The state government has also moved to eliminate unnecessary expenditure by cancelling foreign tours of ministers and senior officials. Departments have been instructed to prioritize video conferencing over physical meetings, reducing both travel expenses and administrative delays.
Helicopter And Flight Usage Restricted
In another strong cost-control measure, the use of government aircraft and helicopters will now be permitted only for emergency or extremely important assignments. Ministers have been advised to use regular commercial flights unless absolutely necessary.
The decision is being viewed as one of the strongest administrative austerity measures taken by the Maharashtra government in recent years.
Public Transport Push For Ministers
Sending a symbolic yet powerful message on fuel conservation and environmental responsibility, ministers and senior officials have been encouraged to use metro services and other public transport systems.
As part of the experimental initiative, the administration has decided that officials should travel using public transport at least once a week.
Crackdown On Decorative Lighting And Flex Boards
The government’s savings drive is not limited to fuel alone. CM Fadnavis has also ordered strict action against unnecessary hoardings, flex boards, and decorative lighting installations consuming excessive electricity in urban areas.
The move is expected to significantly reduce power wastage while promoting a culture of responsible governance and financial discipline within the administration.
Political circles and administrative observers are now closely watching what is being called Devendra Fadnavis’ “mega cost-cutting mission,” which has triggered widespread discussion across Maharashtra.
