A major crowd disturbance occurred during singer Shreya Ghoshal’s live concert in Cuttack, Odisha, on the night of December 13. Heavy pushing and near-stampede conditions broke out when thousands of fans rushed toward the stage to see the singer up close.

According to police, two people fainted due to suffocation as the crowd surged forward and broke the barricades. Despite the presence of 70 police personnel and 2,100 staff members, the gathering became uncontrollable, forcing the police to use a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd and restore order. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital. No fatalities were reported.

Before the performance started, fans had already begun pushing through the barricades. As the crowd swelled, panic spread, leading to chaos in front of the stage. Senior police officials, including the Additional Police Commissioner, rushed to the venue for crowd management.

Shreya Ghoshal, who was performing in Cuttack for the first time, sang several hit songs including “Dola Re Dola,” “Chikni Chameli,” “Manwa Laage,” and “Saiyyara.” Videos from the event have now gone viral on social media.

The concert was held as part of the “Bali Yatra”, an annual festival celebrating Odisha’s maritime history, which took place from November 5 to November 13.
