Aadhaar Card Rule Update: UIDAI Introduces New Rule — No More Aadhaar Photocopy Required in Hotels or OYO
UIDAI to end offline Aadhaar photocopy-based verification; hotels and event organisers must shift to secure digital verification.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced an important new rule aimed at strengthening citizens’ privacy and personal data protection. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed that a notification regarding the new regulations will be issued soon.
According to the revised guidelines, hotels such as OYO and all other lodging facilities will no longer require photocopies of Aadhaar cards for identity verification. The main objective behind this decision is to completely discontinue offline Aadhaar photocopy-based verification, which often led to misuse or mishandling of personal information.
Digital Verification to Replace Photocopies
Under the new system, hotels, event organisers, and similar entities will be required to register with UIDAI and adopt the new digital verification technology. This will ensure that identity checks are conducted securely, accurately, and without the need for physical Aadhaar copies.
UIDAI is also planning to make this technology available at airports, leading to faster and safer identity verification for travellers.
Why This Change?
The updated rules aim to:
-
Protect users from identity theft
-
Prevent misuse of photocopied Aadhaar details
-
Promote secure, digital verification mechanisms
-
Ensure better compliance and safety standards across hospitality and events sectors
The new system is expected to streamline verification and improve data privacy for millions of citizens.
