Alibag (Raigad, Maharashtra):
A tragic accident occurred in the Tamhini Ghat area of Raigad district when a large boulder fell on a moving car, killing a woman identified as Snehal Gujarati. The incident took place near Kondethar village in Mangaon taluka on Thursday.

According to police reports, the victim was traveling with her family from Pune towards Mangaon. While passing through the scenic Tamhini Ghat, a massive rock suddenly rolled down from the hillside and crashed through the car’s sunroof, striking Snehal on the head.

She sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared her dead before arrival. The Mangaon Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Due to continuous rainfall along the Konkan coastal belt, small and large landslides are being frequently reported. Ghats like Ambenali and Bhor are often restricted to traffic during the monsoon season. However, Tamhini Ghat has long been considered relatively safer for travelers.

This tragic event has reignited discussions about the safety of ghat roads during heavy rains. Local residents and commuters have demanded permanent preventive measures to tackle recurring landslides and ensure safer travel routes in the region.
