BJP MLA Mahesh Landge has submitted a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding the establishment of an independent Foodgrain Distribution Officer’s office within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

At present, citizens and fair-price shopkeepers must travel directly to Pune for all foodgrain distribution-related work. This results in a significant loss of time, money, and effort, Landge highlighted.

The combined population of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Dehu Cantonment, Dehu Municipal Council, and surrounding areas stands close to 3 million. With the presence of major industrial belts like Bhosari, Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjawadi, the number of migrant workers is increasing rapidly. As a result, the workload on the existing three zonal foodgrain offices has grown excessively, forcing citizens and shopkeepers to visit Pune. This leads to unnecessary delays and inconvenience, the MLA pointed out.

Drawing a comparison, Landge noted that a city like Solapur—with a population of just 1.1 million—already has an independent foodgrain office. By contrast, a fast-growing city like Pimpri-Chinchwad with nearly 3 million residents urgently requires such a facility. He urged Chief Minister Fadnavis to take the demand seriously and ensure that a dedicated Foodgrain Distribution Officer’s office is set up in Pimpri-Chinchwad at the earliest.

Benefits of Establishing an Independent Office:

  1. Citizens’ hardships will be reduced.

  2. Fair-price shopkeepers’ work will become smoother.

  3. Government employees’ time and efforts will be saved.

  4. Efficiency and speed will improve in official processes.

  5. Public representatives will be able to address citizens’ issues promptly.

Reaction:

“In an industrial and rapidly growing city like Pimpri-Chinchwad with a population of 3 million, having a separate Foodgrain Distribution Officer’s office is the need of the hour. Instead of forcing citizens and fair-price shopkeepers to travel to Pune, providing services locally will increase efficiency and reduce public inconvenience.”
