IPL 2027: Impact Player Rule May Be Scrapped; Auction to Return to India
The BCCI is likely to review the controversial Impact Player rule, while the IPL 2027 mini-auction is set to return to India after three years.
New Delhi | The Indian Premier League (IPL) could see major changes ahead of the 2027 season. The controversial Impact Player rule, which has faced criticism from several players, captains and coaches, may be scrapped following a review by the BCCI.
The rule, which allows teams to replace a player during a match, has sparked debate over its impact on the role of all-rounders. Players including Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill and Axar Patel have raised concerns about the rule.
Meanwhile, the IPL 2027 mini-auction will reportedly be held in India, marking its return to the country after three years. The auction was previously held in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed that the next auction will be conducted in India, although the venue city is yet to be finalised. The BCCI AGM on September 18 is also expected to see Dhumal reappointed as IPL Chairman.
