The deadline for completing the mandatory internship has been revised from August 31, 2026, to October 31, 2026, ensuring that students affected by academic delays during the COVID-19 pandemic remain eligible for the postgraduate entrance examination.
The decision comes after widespread concerns that students who were unable to complete their internships on time due to delayed admissions during the 2020–21 academic session would miss the opportunity to appear for AIAPGET 2026.
COVID-19 Delays Created Eligibility Crisis
The admission process for Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani undergraduate courses was significantly delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, academic schedules were pushed back, causing internships to begin much later than usual.
Under the earlier deadline, thousands of students would have failed to complete their internships by August 31, making them ineligible for the AIAPGET 2026 examination despite completing their academic studies.
Thousands of Students Avoid Losing an Academic Year
With the revised deadline, students now have until October 31, 2026, to complete their internships without affecting their eligibility for postgraduate admissions.
The extension is expected to benefit nearly 10,000 students in Maharashtra and thousands more across the country, allowing them to pursue postgraduate education without losing an entire academic year.
Student Bodies Pushed for the Decision
The extension follows persistent representations by student organisations, educational institutions, and professional associations, which urged both the state and central governments to address the issue caused by pandemic-related delays.
After considering the academic interests of students, authorities approved the two-month extension, ensuring that deserving candidates are not unfairly affected.
