FDA Raids Shop Linked to Siya Goyal’s Family in Pune

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune Division, conducted a surprise inspection at B.G. Goyal & Company, a dry fruits business owned by the family of Siya Goyal, the prime accused in the high-profile Ketan Agrawal murder case, at Pune’s Market Yard.

The raid was carried out as part of the statewide “Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra” campaign being implemented under the guidance of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. Officials inspected the establishment located in the grain market near Gate No. 4 of the Pune Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC).

According to trade sources, the inspection continued for nearly three to four hours on Tuesday evening. Local traders stated that such an extensive FDA operation had not been witnessed in the grain market for several years.

During the inspection, FDA officials collected samples of turmeric powder, sesame seeds, and soybeans for laboratory analysis. Authorities seized 4,702 kilograms of food products worth approximately ₹8.29 lakh, citing labelling irregularities and suspected food adulteration. The establishment was also served a notice directing it to suspend business operations until further orders for non-compliance with food safety regulations.

Additional FDA Crackdown Across Pune Division

Apart from the Market Yard raid, the FDA carried out multiple enforcement actions across Pune and Sangli districts. Officials seized adulterated food products worth ₹8.33 lakh and initiated legal proceedings against those allegedly involved.

During inspections in Salgare village of Miraj taluka, Sangli district, officials found preliminary evidence suggesting that milk was allegedly adulterated using dairy permit powder, refined soybean oil, and sunflower oil. Cases have been registered at Miraj Police Station, and the investigation is underway. Since the seized milk was perishable, it was destroyed as per procedure.

Gutkha and Flavoured Tobacco Seized

FDA teams also conducted raids in Bopodi (Pune) and Kolhapur district, where they seized banned gutkha and flavoured tobacco products worth ₹22,778. Criminal cases have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the accused have been arrested.

The FDA stated that the statewide enforcement drive will continue to ensure compliance with food safety standards and to curb the sale of adulterated and prohibited products.
