The committee will coordinate efforts between the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to implement long-term traffic solutions.
Three Mega Projects to Transform Pune’s Transport Network
The newly constituted committee will focus on three ambitious transport projects aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity:
-
Underground Tunnel Road Network
-
High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR)
-
Inner Ring Road Project
The panel will supervise project planning, implementation, land acquisition, funding, and coordination among various government departments.
Growing City, Shrinking Road Capacity
With Pune expanding rapidly and road infrastructure struggling to keep pace, traffic congestion has become one of the city’s biggest urban challenges. Pune consistently ranks among India’s most congested cities, while the proportion of road infrastructure remains below national planning standards.
The state government said an integrated and future-ready transport system is essential to meet the city’s growing mobility demands.
