Discussions regarding the Pavana water pipeline project are currently underway at various levels in both Pimpri-Chinchwad city and Maval taluka, with differing opinions among farmers, villagers, social organizations, and public representatives. However, considering the city’s growing population, the Pavana Dam pipeline project is essential. Consequently, MLA Mahesh Landge had requested Chief Minister Fadnavis to hold a joint meeting of all-party public representatives and officials to accelerate the project, a request to which the Chief Minister responded positively.
MLA Landge stated that he has been consistently advocating for the Pavana Direct Water Pipeline Project during Legislative Assembly sessions for several years. He has also held discussions with Maval MLA Sunil Shelke. They are actively pursuing the completion of this project through the participation and coordination of all stakeholders. Public representatives—including Maval MP Shrirang Barne, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Anna Bansode, Maval MLA Sunil Shelke, former Minister of State Bala Bhegade, MLA Shankar Jagtap, MLC Uma Khapre, and MLA Amit Gorkhe—along with administrative officials such as the Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department, the Divisional Commissioner, and the District Collector, have been invited to the meeting with the Chief Minister.
The BJP-led Mahayuti government had revoked the ‘status quo’ order regarding the Pavana direct water pipeline project a year ago, raising hopes that the project would finally move forward. Chief Minister Fadnavis has previously adopted a positive stance on this issue and expressed willingness to hold this meeting. The meeting is scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai. Consequently, there is a possibility of a significant decision being reached to advance this project, which is crucial to the daily lives of approximately 40 lakh residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
“When making any decision regarding the Pavana water pipeline project, it is essential to strike a balance between the interests of Maval’s farmers, local public sentiment, future water requirements, and the water supply needs of Pimpri-Chinchwad city. The discussions led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will foster coordination among all stakeholders and pave the way for a mutually acceptable solution,” expressed MLA Mahesh Landge.
“The Pavana Water Pipeline Project is a matter of critical importance regarding the future water supply of Pimpri-Chinchwad. We have consistently raised this issue in the Legislative Assembly and during meetings with the concerned Minister, and the project is now finally taking concrete shape. During its implementation, equal importance will be accorded to the sentiments and interests of the farmers, villagers, and local residents of Maval. In the upcoming meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, efforts will be made to reach a positive, inclusive, and mutually acceptable solution by taking all stakeholders into confidence. Our goal is to secure a sustainable solution to the water crisis facing the 40 lakh residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad without causing injustice to anyone.”
