NHAI Makes Pune-Satara Highway Monsoon Ready
Travelling on the Pune-Satara highway during the monsoon is expected to become safer and more convenient as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed its pre-monsoon maintenance work along the 140-km stretch from Shendre in Satara district to Dehu Road in Pune district.

To minimise disruptions caused by heavy rainfall, NHAI has undertaken extensive repair and maintenance activities, including pothole filling, asphalt resurfacing, drainage cleaning and desilting beneath bridges. The initiative aims to prevent waterlogging and improve road safety during the rainy season.
The authority has divided the highway into three operational zones to ensure faster monitoring and emergency response:
- Shendre to Kambhatki Ghat
- Kambhatki Ghat to Khed Shivapur
- Khed Shivapur to Dehu Road
Dedicated manpower, machinery and maintenance teams have been deployed across all three sections to respond swiftly to any weather-related incidents.
NHAI has also established close coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), PMRDA, police departments and district disaster management authorities to tackle emergencies such as landslides, fallen trees, flooding and road blockages.
To strengthen monsoon preparedness, the authority has kept an extensive emergency response network on standby, including 34 hospitals, 20 ambulances, five cranes, four highway patrol vehicles and 12 fire stations, all of which will remain operational round the clock. A joint preparedness exercise has also been conducted with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in the Kambhatki Ghat section to ensure quick rescue operations if required.
The newly opened bridges at Navale Bridge and Wakad are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, while the upgraded emergency response mechanism is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted travel even during heavy rainfall.
With critical infrastructure upgraded and dedicated teams positioned across the corridor, commuters travelling between Pune and Satara are expected to experience safer, smoother and more reliable journeys throughout the monsoon season.
“We have carried out the maintenance work on a war footing to minimise inconvenience for commuters during the monsoon. The newly constructed bridges at Navale Bridge and Wakad will help ease traffic congestion, and our emergency response system is fully prepared to handle any situation,”
