NEET Re-Exam Scam: 24 Held in Solver Gang Crackdown
Fresh controversy has erupted around the NEET re-examination after police busted an alleged solver gang that was reportedly active during the exam. In a major crackdown, authorities arrested 24 people in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, including five medical students and 14 employees linked to the biometric verification agency deployed at examination centres.

According to police, the gang had allegedly devised a plan to place dummy candidates in place of genuine NEET aspirants appearing for the re-exam. Investigators suspect that Arpit Raj, a student of Annapurna Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, played a key role in operating the network. Notably, Arpit Raj had earlier come under the scanner of the CBI during the investigation into the 2024 NEET paper leak case.
Police said the racket was exposed after Mayank Kashyap, a third-year MBBS student of PMCH, allegedly entered the Hasanpur High School examination centre by posing as a staff member of the biometric verification company. During routine verification, officials grew suspicious and detained him for questioning.
The interrogation reportedly led investigators to the larger network. Acting on the information, police conducted raids at multiple locations and arrested several individuals allegedly linked to the operation.
Authorities revealed that medical students had been instructed not to leave their campuses during the examination period. Several medical colleges, including PMCH, had organised seminars and quiz programmes to ensure students remained on campus. However, investigators found that a number of students were absent from these events.
During the probe, police learned that Mayank Kashyap had allegedly left the campus citing health issues. He was later traced and arrested in Lakhisarai, which ultimately helped investigators uncover the alleged examination fraud network.
The latest arrests have once again raised serious concerns over the security and transparency of one of India’s most important entrance examinations. Police officials have indicated that further investigations are underway and more arrests could follow as the probe expands.
