PMRDA Road Work Faces Poor Quality Allegations
₹5 Crore Concrete Road Project in Bhama Askhed Sparks Outrage as Villagers Allege Use of Soil Instead of Murum, Demand Immediate Quality Audit
Bhama Askhed | Pune Rural — Serious allegations of poor-quality construction have surfaced against an ongoing cement concrete road project between Koye and Dhamane in Khed taluka. Local villagers and social activists have accused the contractor of using ordinary soil instead of murum for roadside filling work, triggering strong public anger over the alleged misuse of government funds.
The road project, being executed under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), is part of a larger rural connectivity package worth nearly ₹45 crore. The specific Dhamane Phata to Koye stretch, measuring approximately 1.8 kilometers, has received close to ₹5 crore for cement concreting work.
However, residents claim the execution quality is far below acceptable standards. Instead of properly strengthening the road shoulders with murum, workers are allegedly filling the side portions with mud removed from roadside drains. Citizens have questioned how such practices are being allowed despite the massive public investment.
According to local discussions, PMRDA officials allegedly sidelined lower-rate bidders to award the contract to the present contractor. Villagers further alleged that complaints regarding the contractor’s previous works had already been raised in several villages.
Social activist Pappu Rale from Koye strongly criticized the work quality and stated,
“We clearly told the contractor to fill the road sides using murum. Instead, soil from the roadside drains is being used for filling. The road work is being carried out in a poor-quality manner.”
Another major concern raised by locals is that the earlier tar road was reportedly not excavated before starting the concrete work, raising questions about durability, technical compliance, and long-term safety standards.
Former MLA Dilip Mohite Patil had consistently followed up for the approval of this important rural road project. However, Nationalist Youth Congress president Jaysing Darekar alleged that the final execution of the road has turned out to be substandard and unacceptable.
The controversy has now intensified demands for an independent technical inspection and strict accountability from PMRDA officials as well as the contractor handling the project. Villagers have warned that if immediate corrective action is not taken, the issue could escalate into a larger public agitation.
