Pune Pushes OTP Tanker Tracking System
Collector Jitendra Dudi cracks down on tanker irregularities with a strict OTP-based digital monitoring system to ensure transparent, accountable and real-time water supply management across Pune district.
Pune Directs Civic Bodies To Adopt OTP-Based Tanker Monitoring System
Pune: In a major move to tighten transparency and accountability in water distribution, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has directed all local self-government bodies across the district to immediately implement an OTP-based software system for tanker water supply management.
The directive has been issued to the Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority and Pune Zilla Parishad through the Employment Guarantee Branch of the Collector Office.
The decision comes amid increasing concerns over irregularities, delayed supply and lack of monitoring in tanker-based water distribution, especially during the summer water crisis.
A detailed presentation regarding the new digital mechanism was conducted during a high-level meeting held at the Pune Collector Office on April 24, 2026. Officials from multiple civic and administrative departments attended the meeting to discuss implementation strategies and operational monitoring.

Under the newly proposed system, every tanker movement will be digitally tracked through GPS-enabled monitoring. Authorities will be able to monitor where the tanker started, its live route, delivery timeline and final destination in real time. The administration believes this will significantly reduce manipulation, unauthorized diversions and fake supply entries.
The software will also maintain records related to tanker driver verification, including physical fitness checks and alcohol testing, making the overall water distribution mechanism more secure and accountable.
Most importantly, the system will verify actual water delivery through OTP authentication. Once the tanker reaches the designated location and completes the supply process, OTP confirmation will validate the delivery, ensuring that citizens receive the promised water supply without malpractice or false reporting.
Officials stated that the technology-driven system will help authorities manage tanker operations more efficiently during periods of severe water scarcity while strengthening public trust in the administration’s water supply network.
“Increasing transparency and accountability in tanker-based water supply across Pune district is the need of the hour. Through the OTP-based software system, real-time control can be maintained over every tanker’s movement, distribution and actual water delivery. This will not only curb malpractices but also ensure that citizens receive water on time and in the prescribed quantity. All local self-government bodies must implement this system immediately and effectively.”
