Pune–Mumbai Expressway to Remain Temporarily Closed; Traffic Diversions Announced
Traffic to be completely halted between 12 PM and 3 PM on April 23 and 24 for bridge maintenance work near Dongargaon–Kusgaon; commuters advised to plan travel in advance

Pune-Mumbai Expressway | In a significant development for daily commuters and long-distance travelers, traffic on the Pune–Mumbai Expressway will be temporarily suspended for a few hours on April 23 and April 24, 2026. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced this closure to facilitate essential maintenance work on a bridge located at Kilometer 58/500 near Dongargaon–Kusgaon.
According to officials, the ongoing work involves removal of shuttering and painting of the bridge structure, which is in its final stage. Due to the use of heavy machinery and the potential risks involved, authorities have decided to completely stop vehicular movement during the specified time window to ensure safety.
Traffic Closure Schedule
Traffic towards Mumbai will remain completely closed on April 23, 2026, from 12 PM to 3 PM. During this period, all vehicles will be diverted via Kiwale – Dehu Road – Talegaon route onto National Highway 48 and reconnected at Kusgaon toll plaza.

Similarly, traffic heading towards Pune will be shut on April 24, 2026, from 12 PM to 3 PM. Vehicles will be rerouted from Kusgaon toll plaza through NH 48 via Dehu Road – Kiwale towards Pune.
Expected Traffic Impact
With the closure of the expressway, all diverted vehicles will use National Highway 48, which is likely to witness a significant increase in traffic volume. Areas such as Kiwale, Dehu Road, Talegaon, and Kusgaon are expected to experience congestion, especially during peak afternoon hours.
Local traffic, industrial transport vehicles, and intercity buses will converge on the same route, potentially leading to delays. Traffic police have deployed additional personnel at key junctions to manage the flow and minimize disruptions.
Authorities Urge Advance Planning
Officials have urged commuters to avoid travel during the closure hours if possible. Those who must travel are advised to check real-time traffic updates and use alternative routes accordingly.
Commuters are also advised to factor in additional travel time, as congestion on diversion routes may increase overall journey duration. Following traffic rules and instructions from authorities will be crucial to ensure smooth movement.
Emergency Contact Information
In case of any issues during the closure period, commuters can reach out to the following helpline numbers:
MSRDC Control Room: 9822498224
Highway Police: 9833498334
Both helplines will remain operational to assist travelers during the traffic diversion period.
Travel Planning Tips
Check traffic updates before starting your journey. Keep alternative routes ready in advance. Avoid peak closure timings if possible. Ensure sufficient fuel before entering diversion routes. Carry essential items for longer travel duration.
While the temporary closure of the Pune–Mumbai Expressway may cause inconvenience to commuters, the maintenance work is crucial for long-term infrastructure safety. With proper planning and cooperation from the public, the impact of this disruption can be minimized. Authorities have ensured that alternative arrangements are in place, and travelers are encouraged to stay informed and travel responsibly.
