Despite Defeat Against RCB, CSK Batsmen Set a World Record; First Team in T20 History to Achieve This Feat

IPL 2026: The 11th match of the IPL 2026 tournament took place yesterday (April 5) between two cricketing giants. In the contest between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings, Bangalore defeated Chennai by 43 runs. Chennai was forced to accept its third consecutive defeat of the season. In the match played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chennai won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, Bangalore posted a total of 250 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Tim David played a blistering innings during this effort.

He scored 70 runs off just 25 balls, smashing 3 fours and 8 sixes. Additionally, Devdutt Padikkal contributed a knock of 50 runs, while Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Rajat Patidar remained unbeaten on 48 runs off 19 balls. While chasing the target of 251 runs, Chennai could only manage to reach a total of 207 runs. Consequently, they suffered a defeat by a margin of 43 runs. However, despite losing the match, Chennai managed to set a world record.

Chennai got off to a poor start in their chase of 251 runs; they had lost 3 wickets with just 30 runs on the board. The team was subsequently steadied by Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 50 runs off 25 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. Contributions from Prashant Veer (43 runs) and Jamie Overton (37 runs) helped Chennai cross the 200-run mark.

However, the entire Chennai team was eventually bowled out for 207 runs in 19.4 overs. In this match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed the highest number of wickets—three—for Bangalore, while Jacob Duffy, Abhinandan Singh, and Krunal Pandya took two wickets each to lead their team to victory.

What is the World Record?

While chasing a target against Royal Challengers Bangalore, nine Chennai players hit at least one six. Chennai Super Kings has thus become the first team in T20 history to achieve this feat. This marked the first instance in T20 cricket where nine different players each hit a six during a single innings.

For Chennai, Ayush Mhatre and Matt Henry were the only two players who did not hit a single six. In total, Chennai struck 11 sixes during their innings. Although Chennai Super Kings ultimately lost the match, they successfully claimed the world record for the highest number of players hitting a six in a single innings. Chennai’s next match is scheduled for April 11th against the Delhi Capitals.
