Unseasonal Rain and Hailstorm Hit City; IT Hub Witnesses Hill-Station Like Conditions

Pune, March 31: The city experienced a sudden spell of unseasonal rain accompanied by hailstorm, transforming parts of the bustling IT hub into a scene resembling a hill station. The unexpected weather change disrupted normal life briefly, while validating prior forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Areas including Hinjawadi IT Park witnessed intense hail showers on Sunday, creating a dramatic visual across the locality. Roads, vehicles, and open spaces were covered with a layer of hail, giving the region an unusual, snow-like appearance.

Known as Pune’s major IT corridor, Hinjawadi temporarily mirrored the ambience of a hill station, with several residents comparing the scene to conditions seen in Shimla. The rare occurrence drew attention from locals, many of whom captured and shared visuals of the phenomenon.
The sudden shift in weather caught commuters off guard, leading to minor disruptions in traffic and routine activities across parts of the city. However, no major incidents were reported.
Earlier, the IMD had predicted unseasonal rainfall in several parts of Maharashtra, and the forecast proved accurate as hail and rain were recorded in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad regions.
While the showers brought temporary relief from rising temperatures, authorities remain alert as fluctuating weather patterns continue to pose challenges.
