Memorandum submitted to Mayor Ravi Landge and Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi

Pimpri-Chinchwad | BJP city president and corporator Shatrughan Sitaram Kate has taken an aggressive stand against the steep increase in property name transfer charges in the city and has strongly criticized the municipal administration. In this regard, he submitted a detailed memorandum to Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Commissioner of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the current 0.5% fee. A memorandum was also submitted to Mayor Ravi Landge.

In his submission, Kate stated that the municipal corporation is currently charging 0.5% of the total market value of the property as a transfer fee, which is excessively high and unjustified. Citizens already bear a significant financial burden in the form of stamp duty and registration charges while purchasing a house. This additional charge imposed by the municipal body creates a double financial burden on common citizens.

“Earlier, only a nominal fee was charged for property transfer in the municipal corporation, which was sufficient to cover administrative expenses. However, imposing a percentage-based fee merely to increase revenue is an incorrect approach,” Kate strongly objected.

He further pointed out that in a rapidly developing city like Pimpri-Chinchwad, citizens expect simple and transparent services. However, such burdensome conditions are discouraging people from officially registering property transfers with the municipal corporation. He warned that this could adversely affect the corporation’s revenue collection in the future.

Against the backdrop of rising inflation, paying lakhs of rupees as transfer charges is unaffordable for ordinary families. This has led to widespread dissatisfaction among citizens, and the administration must take this matter seriously, Kate emphasized.

He demanded that the current 0.5% property transfer fee be immediately scrapped and replaced with the earlier nominal fee. This would provide financial relief to citizens and make the transfer process more simple, transparent, and efficient. He expressed hope that the administration would take a positive stance and make a prompt decision in the public interest.

“We will not tolerate the 0.5% property transfer fee that is unfair to the common citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad under any circumstances. We will continue to follow up with the administration until this fee is abolished and the earlier nominal fee is reinstated. The struggle will continue until citizens receive financial relief, and if necessary, we will launch a democratic movement (protest),” said Shatrughan Kate, BJP city president and corporator.
