Community Composting Centre Inaugurated at Yashwantrao Chavan Rose Garden
Pimpri: A S.O.R.T. (Solid Organic Resource Transformation) Community Composting Centre (CCCM) model was inaugurated at the Yashwantrao Chavan Rose Garden, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, on Monday, December 15, 2025, on behalf of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The centre was inaugurated by Assistant Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Tangle.
The community composting centre has been designed to process approximately 250 kilograms of organic waste per day. Using aerobic composting technology, the facility will produce nutrient-rich compost manure. This initiative will promote scientific management of wet waste and strengthen environmentally friendly waste processing systems.
Speaking at the inauguration, Assistant Commissioner Pradeep Tangle praised the work being carried out under the S.O.R.T. initiative by Swarna Lata Madarson Trust and the Indian Pollution Control Association. He stated that decentralized models like CCCM are effective in addressing waste management challenges and emphasized the importance of collective efforts. He further noted that coordination and cooperation among various stakeholders can bring about positive and transformative change in society.
He also appealed to zonal officers and assistant health officers to promote and publicize the S.O.R.T. initiative in housing societies and educational institutions within their respective jurisdictions. Tangle added that the CCCM model will be included in upcoming review meetings with zonal officers, with a focus on expanding its implementation across all zones of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Assistant Commissioner Pradeep Tangle, Assistant Health Officer Tanaji Date, Administrative Officer Ms. Waikar, Assistant Health Officer Sudhir Waghmare, Assistant Health Officer (F Zone) Mahesh Adhav, Assistant Health Officer (E Zone) Rajesh Bhat, Assistant Health Officer Ankush Zhite, along with Project Manager Zeeshan Khan and Programme Managers Vaibhav Nasurde, Suchit Chaudhary, Datta Hendre, and Gulab Sabale.
