Despite his experience, the Kolkata event drew massive criticism due to security lapses, poor crowd control, and unrealistic expectations set for fans.
Political Reaction
Following the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee publicly apologised. In a post on social media platform X, she expressed deep distress over the mismanagement and extended apologies to Lionel Messi and football fans. She also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.
