UPI Rules, LPG Gas Prices… Major Changes from August 1

Delhi | The month of July is about to end, and in just day, the month of August will begin. Like every month, some important changes will come into effect in the country from the first day of August. These changes include revisions to the prices of LPG cylinders used in household kitchens and new rules for UPI payments, which are crucial for users of apps like GPay, PhonePe, and Paytm. The new rules, effective from August 1, 2025, will be significant for UPI users.

UPI is no longer just a technical service—it has become an integral part of India’s digital lifestyle. To make the UPI system faster, safer, and more reliable, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has decided to implement some new rules. These rules will place restrictions on actions that cause excessive load on the UPI system. For instance, checking balance repeatedly or constantly tracking transaction status.

These 4 Important UPI Rule Changes

• You can now check your bank account balance only 50 times per day.

• You can view the details of bank accounts linked to your mobile number a maximum of 25 times per day.

• The status of a single transaction can be checked only 3 times, and there must be a minimum 90-second gap between each check.

• Auto-payment transactions like those for Netflix, EMI, or electricity bills will be processed only at scheduled times.

According to NPCI, during April and May 2025, the UPI system experienced massive load, causing many transactions to fail or get delayed. The main reason behind this was users checking balances or transaction status repeatedly. To reduce this load, these new rules are being introduced.

Merchants who receive payments via AutoPay may need to update their systems as per NPCI’s new time slots. However, for general consumers, services like mobile recharge or subscriptions will continue to function as usual.

On the first day of every month, the public closely watches the changes made by oil marketing companies in LPG cylinder prices, as this directly impacts the household kitchen budget. At the beginning of July, oil companies reduced the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹60. However, domestic LPG cylinder prices have remained unchanged for several months. Therefore, it is speculated that price changes for domestic cylinders may occur soon.
