Mumbai–Vijaydurg Ro-Pax Ferry Service Launched with Grandeur; A New Era of Development for Konkan Begins
Inaugurated from Bhaucha Dhakka in Mumbai, the service will connect Mumbai and Vijaydurg in just 6–7 hours, boosting tourism, fisheries, and trade across the Konkan region

Mumbai: A golden chapter in Konkan’s maritime journey began today with the grand launch of the Mumbai–Vijaydurg Ro-Pax ferry service. The ambitious project, envisioned under the guidance of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and described as a “dream project” by Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm.
The first voyage was flagged off by Minister Nitesh Rane from Bhaucha Dhakka in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in the state’s coastal transport network. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended his congratulations on this historic occasion, calling the project a major leap forward in Maharashtra’s maritime connectivity.
The state-of-the-art Ro-Pax vessel is equipped with modern amenities and enhanced safety features. It has a capacity to carry approximately 625 passengers, along with 40 four-wheelers and 25 two-wheelers in a single trip. The sea route will now cover the distance between Mumbai and Vijaydurg in just 6 to 7 hours, offering significant savings in time and travel fatigue for passengers.
Speaking at the launch event, Minister Nitesh Rane stated that the service is not merely a mode of transport but a “highway of development” for the Konkan region. He emphasized that it would provide a substantial boost to tourism, fisheries, and local trade, while also offering relief and convenience to Konkan natives residing in Mumbai.
The ferry departed from Mumbai in the evening and arrived at Vijaydurg Port at 4:20 PM, where passengers received a warm and enthusiastic welcome. The inaugural trip witnessed an overwhelming response from travelers and tourists, signaling that the Ro-Pax service is set to become a major transport alternative for Konkan in the near future.
