Monsoon Near Maharashtra’s Doorstep:The southwest monsoon, which brings much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat, officially arrived in Kerala on Thursday. According to the weather department, atmospheric conditions remain favorable for the monsoon’s further advancement toward western India.

The monsoon has now begun its northward journey, and recent satellite images show a thick band of clouds stretching across the coastlines of Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa. Weather experts believe this cloud formation is gradually approaching southern Konkan, indicating that monsoon winds could soon enter Maharashtra.

Slow Start From Andaman, But Momentum Is Building

The monsoon first reached the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 16. However, its progress remained relatively slow during the following weeks, prompting anticipation across the country regarding its arrival in Kerala.

The wait finally ended on Thursday when the weather department officially declared the onset of the monsoon over Kerala.

According to meteorologists, monsoon winds have already advanced into parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, the Comorin region, Kerala, and the remaining areas of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea.

Dense Clouds Gather Near Maharashtra Coast

Satellite imagery on Friday revealed extensive cloud cover across the coastal regions of Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa. Meteorologists are closely monitoring these developments as the cloud belt continues moving toward southern Konkan.

If the current pattern persists over the next 48 hours, rainfall intensity is expected to increase across coastal Konkan. Such conditions are generally considered highly favorable for the monsoon’s continued advance into Maharashtra.

When Will Monsoon Enter Maharashtra?

The weather department has indicated that atmospheric conditions will remain favorable for the southwest monsoon to progress further over the next two to three days.

Based on current forecasts, monsoon winds are likely to reach Maharashtra’s southern coastline by June 7 or June 8. If conditions become even more favorable, the monsoon could arrive earlier than expected in Goa and southern Konkan.

Rain Alerts Issued Across Several Regions

Meanwhile, several districts across Maharashtra remain under weather alerts due to ongoing rainfall activity. The weather department has issued Yellow Alerts for many areas, while a few regions have been placed under Orange Alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall and localized weather disruptions.
