Will Sairat 2 Happen? Nagraj Manjule Breaks Silence
The acclaimed filmmaker says 'Sairat 2' will only happen if there's a powerful story, adding that the original film had already reached its complete conclusion.
The 2016 blockbuster Sairat remains one of the biggest milestones in Marathi cinema. Starring Rinku Rajguru as Archie and Akash Thosar as Parshya, the film rewrote box office history by becoming the first Marathi movie to cross the ₹100 crore mark. Its powerful portrayal of love, caste discrimination, and rural realities continues to resonate with audiences even today.

Following the release of Dhadak 2, fans have once again started asking whether Sairat 2 is on the cards. Director Nagraj Manjule has now addressed the speculation and made his stance crystal clear.
Speaking about the love story in Sairat, Manjule said that while writing the film, he wanted to present love as it exists in real life rather than the idealized version often seen in movies.
“When I wrote Sairat, I felt that films often portray love very differently from reality. In real life, couples face countless challenges. I didn’t want to add unnecessary drama. I simply wanted to tell the story as truthfully as possible.”
He added that while most romantic films end with a happy ending, they often overlook the harsh realities people face. His intention with Sairat was to reflect those realities honestly.
Manjule also spoke about the Hindi remake, Dhadak, produced by Karan Johar.
“I never imagined that Sairat would be remade in Bollywood. I only focused on making an honest film. I never thought about how successful it would become or whether it would get a remake.”
Will ‘Sairat 2’ Be Made?
Responding to questions about a possible sequel after the release of Dhadak 2, Manjule dismissed the idea that a sequel is necessary just because the Hindi version has one.
“Just because Dhadak has a sequel doesn’t mean Sairat 2 should happen. If there is a genuinely strong story, then Sairat 2 can be made. But the story of Sairat had already reached its conclusion.”
He further explained that audiences often become curious about what happens to beloved characters after a successful film. Similar questions have also been raised about a sequel to Fandry.
According to Manjule, people had stopped asking about Sairat 2 for a while after the film’s release, but the curiosity has resurfaced in recent months. However, he clarified that there are currently no plans to develop or produce Sairat 2.
