Demand for Free PMPML Passes for Students in Municipal Schools!

Pimpri-Chinchwad | Immediate action should be taken to start free PMPML bus pass services for students from Classes 5 to 12. The Municipal Corporation administration should take the initiative to promote education among students from economically weaker sections, demanded BJP MLA Mahesh Landge.

In this regard, a memorandum has been submitted to Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh. The memorandum states that a large number of students are pursuing education in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area. Many of these students depend on public transport to commute daily to schools, colleges, or coaching classes. Currently, PMPML plays a vital role in this commute. Previously, for the academic year 2024–25, students from Classes 5 to 10 were provided subsidized bus passes. However, it is understood that this facility has been discontinued this year.

In the backdrop of rising inflation, many parents are facing a growing financial burden due to bus fares. Along with other educational expenses such as fees and study materials, bus fare is a significant cost. As a result, many deserving and underprivileged students are facing difficulties. Therefore, we strongly demand that students from Classes 5 to 12 studying in both government and private schools be provided with 100% free bus passes for the academic year 2025–26.

All students from the Pimpri-Chinchwad region who rely on the PMPML bus service should be given access to free pass facilities. If this scheme is implemented under the Municipal Corporation’s social responsibility framework, it will make students’ academic journey easier and more inspiring, expressed MLA Landge.

Through the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation administration, primary and secondary schools are being run in the city. Approximately 42,000+ students are studying in 105 primary and 18 secondary schools. Last year, students were offered a 75% discount on PMPML bus travel. This year, a 100% free pass facility should be provided. This will enable students living on the periphery of the municipal limits to benefit from the bus service and receive educational support. We are confident that the Municipal Corporation administration will take positive action in this regard.
