Pimpri Chinchwad | For the past few years, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been implementing an initiative to ensure that citizens can actively participate in the municipal budget process. Under this initiative, the 2025–26 budget included provisions ranging from funds for new roads in Punawale and improved footpaths in Charholi to new infrastructure projects in Ravet. Now, in the 2026–27 budget as well, 10% of the property tax collected in a citizen’s area will be allocated for schemes suggested by them. Accordingly, citizens will be able to submit their suggestions starting from August 15, 2025.

For the financial year 2025–26, PCMC received 2,279 citizen suggestions from eight ward offices. After scrutiny, 786 suggestions were accepted, and as many as 499 works proposed by citizens were funded. A reserved fund of ₹94.86 crore was kept for citizen-suggested works. However, giving priority to social works suggested by citizens, the corporation allocated ₹138.98 crore for these projects.

Ward D Gets the Maximum Benefit
Under the provision of allocating 10% of the property tax collected in an area for citizen-suggested works, Ward D benefited the most. In Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, and Pimple Saudagar areas of this ward, various works suggested by citizens have been completed. For main road works, drainage works, and parks, ₹43.88 crore was allocated here. In Ward B, which includes Ravet and Kiwale, ₹20.60 crore was allocated for works ranging from road construction to a new municipal school in Ravet.

Across almost all wards in the city, citizens’ suggestions included major works such as road development, footpath improvement, park upgrades, and waste management. Public safety works like installing CCTV cameras in all wards, building footpaths in Thergaon according to urban road design standards, and developing a railway overbridge in Pimpri village were also part of the proposals.

Taking into account citizens’ suggestions and prioritizing works accordingly, provisions were made for them in the 2025–26 budget. Now, once again, suggestions will be sought from citizens for the 2026–27 budget, starting August 15, 2025.

How to Submit Suggestions for the 2026–27 Budget
• Any resident of Pimpri Chinchwad can suggest which works should be included in the 2026–27 budget.
• Citizens can submit suggestions online by filling out the application form on the PCMC official website.
• The facility to fill out offline applications has been made available at every ward office.

• For schemes suggested by citizens, a provision will be made for 10% of the property tax collected in their area.
• This fund will be used for works such as roads, footpaths, gardens, public facilities, waste management, water supply, streetlights, and safety measures.

Including citizens’ participation in the budget makes it more comprehensive and helps in developing civic amenities according to the city’s needs. In the 2025–26 budget, provisions were made for works suggested by citizens. For the upcoming 2026–27 budget, once again, citizens will be able to participate.
