The newly built ghat road on the highway leading to the historic Raigad Fort has become the latest attraction for tourists and devotees visiting this iconic Maratha landmark. The winding route, nestled amid lush green valleys and scenic landscapes, is enchanting travelers with its natural beauty.

Originally, the old Mahad–Raigad road was considered difficult and tiring. However, with the completion of the new ghat section, the journey has become not only easier but also far more enjoyable. Visitors can now experience mesmerizing sights of mist-covered hills, cascading waterfalls during the monsoon, and the majestic Raigad Fort standing tall in the distance. Many tourists are seen stopping for photo sessions along the route.

The development of this new road traces back to efforts initiated in the 1970s under the Raigad Zilla Parishad. After frequent accidents and two-wheeler mishaps on the earlier Konzar–Pachad stretch, the route was declared a National Highway in 2017, and work began on this safer and more scenic alternative.

Local residents and business owners are optimistic that this road will further boost the region’s tourism economy. The increase in visitors has already benefited local tea stalls, snack vendors, and handicraft sellers. They have urged the administration to install safety railings, resting spots, and viewing points along the route to enhance the experience for tourists and devotees.

If the tourism and highway departments provide better facilities near the natural waterfalls and viewpoints, locals believe the number of visitors—especially Shiv devotees—will grow even more in the coming years.
