MLA Shankar Jagtap Reviews Flood Situation in Pimpri-Chinchwad; Directs Administration for Permanent Solutions
Focus on Long-Term Drainage Planning, Not Temporary Measures, Says Jagtap
Pimpri-Chinchwad | Amid the flood-like situation caused by heavy rainfall in several parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad, MLA Shankar Jagtap conducted an urgent review meeting and directed the administration to implement permanent solutions to address recurring waterlogging issues in the city.

The meeting was held at Auto Cluster, Chinchwad, in the presence of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, senior officials from various civic departments, and other public representatives. A detailed assessment was carried out regarding flood-prone areas, water accumulation points, and the difficulties faced by citizens during heavy rains.
During the meeting, MLA Jagtap emphasized that temporary measures alone would not resolve the recurring problems and instructed officials to focus on long-term planning and sustainable drainage solutions. He directed the civic administration to conduct immediate ground surveys of all waterlogging hotspots and implement effective measures on a war footing to ensure faster discharge of rainwater.
He stressed that planning should not remain limited to official files but must reflect through visible action on the ground. Officials were also instructed to prepare proposals for upgrading inadequate drainage infrastructure, including the conversion of existing pipelines into box culvert systems wherever required, and implement the projects in a phased manner.
Considering the rapid urban growth and increasing population of Pimpri-Chinchwad, MLA Jagtap directed the preparation of a comprehensive infrastructure master plan for the next 30 years to strengthen stormwater drainage and sewage management systems. He also called for the rejuvenation of old drains, removal of obstructions in natural water channels, and improvement of the city’s overall drainage network.
He further instructed all concerned agencies, including the municipal corporation, electricity department, disaster management teams, fire brigade, and police administration, to work in close coordination during emergency situations and ensure immediate assistance to citizens.

Every flood-prone area will be surveyed, and modern drainage infrastructure will be developed to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens. No delay or negligence in implementing these measures will be tolerated.”
