Karnataka CM Change Buzz: Siddaramaiah Set To Quit, DK Shivakumar Likely To Take Charge

Bengaluru: The long-running suspense over Karnataka’s Chief Ministerial post now appears to be nearing its dramatic conclusion. Strong political buzz in Karnataka suggests that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may resign from his post later today, paving the way for Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to take over the reins of the state government.

The developments have triggered intense political discussions across Karnataka, with Congress leadership reportedly moving towards a major power transition that could reshape the party’s internal equations ahead of future electoral battles.

Speculation gained further momentum after a crucial breakfast meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bengaluru on Thursday morning. During the meeting, Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivakumar were seen sharing a warm embrace, a gesture widely interpreted as a strong political signal amid the ongoing leadership discussions.

In a moment that quickly became the centre of political attention, D. K. Shivakumar was also seen publicly touching Siddaramaiah’s feet and seeking his blessings. The visuals have sparked massive reactions in political circles, with many viewing it as more than just a symbolic gesture.

Power Shift Signals Grow Stronger In Karnataka Congress

Meanwhile, another major development added fuel to the speculation. Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot is reportedly out of Bengaluru, leading to political chatter over the resignation process. However, Congress insiders maintain that the Governor’s temporary absence will not affect the scheduled political developments, and Siddaramaiah may still formally submit his resignation as planned.

For Congress, this transition is not merely about changing the Chief Minister. The party faces the much bigger challenge of maintaining Karnataka’s delicate social and political balance.

Siddaramaiah is considered one of Congress’ strongest mass leaders in Karnataka, especially because of his influence over the AHINDA social coalition — a political combination of minorities, backward classes and Dalits. His leadership and social outreach played a crucial role in Congress’ massive victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.

Political observers believe that if Siddaramaiah steps down, Congress will have to carefully manage the expectations of his support base. Any dissatisfaction among AHINDA voters could create political complications for the party in the coming years.

On the other hand, D. K. Shivakumar’s elevation to the Chief Minister’s post would mark a significant rise in his political career. However, the bigger challenge before him would be strengthening his acceptance among AHINDA voters while also maintaining unity within the Karnataka Congress.

As political developments unfold rapidly in Bengaluru, Karnataka now appears to be heading towards a major leadership transition that could open a completely new chapter in the state’s politics.
