Suryakumar Yadav: “I Want to Beat Australia in the Final” — Big Statement Ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2026
Suryakumar wants to avenge India’s 2023 ODI World Cup loss; hopes to face Australia in the 2026 T20 World Cup final at Narendra Modi Stadium

Indian:
T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has made a bold and emotional statement ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, expressing his wish to face Australia in the tournament’s final and defeat them at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
A Chance to Settle Old Scores
India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 under Rohit Sharma by defeating South Africa in the final.
However, just months before that, India suffered a heartbreaking loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final played at the same Ahmedabad venue.
Now, Surya — who will lead the Indian team in the 2026 edition — has clearly stated that he wants to beat Australia in the final to “complete the unfinished business.”
2026 T20 World Cup Groups Announced
The ICC has released the schedule for the tournament beginning 7 February 2026.
Group A (India’s Group):
-
India
-
Pakistan
-
USA
-
Netherlands
-
Namibia
Group B:
-
Australia
-
Sri Lanka
-
Ireland
-
Zimbabwe
-
Oman
India has beaten Australia in both recent bilateral matches after the ODI World Cup defeat. Surya believes the team has the capability to repeat that dominance on the biggest stage.
Final on March 8 in Ahmedabad
The 2026 T20 World Cup final is scheduled for 8 March at the Narendra Modi Stadium — the same venue where India suffered heartbreak in 2023.
This adds even more emotional significance to Surya’s wish to meet Australia in the final.
Women’s Team Also Shares Similar Sentiment
Interestingly, Indian women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur also expressed similar emotions during the schedule announcement.
She recalled how India defeated Australia in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal, saying:
“Australia was the one team we really wanted to beat.”
Cricket fans are now eagerly waiting to see whether India and Australia face off in yet another high-stakes World Cup final.
