According to officials, the private sleeper coach was travelling from Rishikesh to Indore when it collided with a trailer at around 2:30 AM near Dausa. The impact was so severe that both vehicles caught fire within moments, turning the expressway into a scene of devastation.

Authorities said the bus was moving at high speed when it rammed into the trailer. The powerful collision threw passengers sleeping on the upper berths onto the lower deck. Many victims were trapped inside the burning bus and could not escape in time.

Officials confirmed that five passengers died due to severe burn injuries, while three others succumbed to critical head injuries. Most of the deceased were reportedly asleep when the accident occurred.

The 22 injured, including several women and children, were rushed to Dausa District Hospital for treatment. Eyewitnesses alleged that rescue teams and firefighters reached the spot late, claiming that passengers remained trapped inside the burning bus for nearly an hour, which may have increased the death toll.

Local residents also claimed that the luggage compartment contained a large quantity of cigarette cartons, which allegedly caused the fire to spread rapidly. However, authorities have not officially confirmed this claim.

Police suspect that the driver may have dozed off before the collision, although the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Dausa Superintendent of Police Piyush Dixit said the incident occurred around 3:30 AM. According to him, the sleeper bus travelling from Rishikesh to Indore collided with an empty trailer heading towards Mumbai. Preliminary findings suggest that an overtaking attempt may have led to the fatal collision.

The administration has launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events while efforts continue to identify all the victims and assist the injured.
