Delhi HC Orders Removal of Kala Hiran Teaser Links

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has received major interim relief after the Delhi High Court ordered the removal of teaser links and promotional content related to the upcoming film ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ from social media platforms.

The legal dispute revolves around the film, which is allegedly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving Salman Khan. The court observed that the promotional material could potentially harm the actor’s reputation and directed the filmmakers to remove the teaser from social media within 24 hours.

The High Court further stated that if the producers fail to comply with the order, platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) will be directed to take down the teaser links.

Producers Defend the Film

Appearing before the court, counsel for producer Amit Jani argued that the released content was merely a teaser and did not mention Salman Khan by name. The producers also maintained that no AI or deepfake technology was used in the promotional material.

Salman Khan’s Arguments

Representing Salman Khan, his legal team submitted that the actor has already been acquitted in three out of the four blackbuck-related cases, while the sentence in the remaining case has been stayed.

The petition further claimed that the film portrays Salman Khan as having links with the underworld and contains defamatory material that violates his personality rights. According to the actor, such content could also prejudice the ongoing judicial proceedings, as the blackbuck case remains pending before the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court of India.

Salman Khan also argued that the film’s poster features a character bearing a striking resemblance to him, including the actor’s signature bracelet, making it easy for viewers to associate the character with him.

Notice and Fresh Allegations

The petition also alleged that after Salman Khan served a legal notice to the filmmakers, producer Amit Jani publicly tore up the notice during an interview. It further claimed that Jani later posted on social media alleging that he had received threats from Salman Khan and members of the underworld.

Background of the Case

The controversy began after Salman Khan approached the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’, arguing that the film is based on the blackbuck poaching case and could seriously damage his public image. The actor also sought the removal of all promotional material, including posters and teasers, from digital platforms.
