Hooghly: Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel has been arrested by Hooghly police in connection with a case registered at the Mogra Police Station. The cricketer was taken into custody on Tuesday morning following allegations that he had established a sexual relationship with a medical student after allegedly promising to marry her.

According to the complaint, the woman has alleged that Porel had assured her of marriage and subsequently had a sexual relationship with her. She has also claimed that some of their private moments were allegedly recorded by the cricketer.
Police reportedly questioned Porel for several hours before formally placing him under arrest. Following the arrest, he underwent a medical examination and was subsequently produced before the Chinsurah court.
The case has also come under the scrutiny of the Calcutta High Court, which had reportedly directed the police to take action against Porel in connection with the allegations.
Medical Student Files Complaint
According to the complaint filed at Mogra Police Station, the woman alleged that she and Porel had been in a relationship and that discussions regarding their marriage had also taken place between their respective families.
The complainant has further claimed that she later came to know about Porel’s alleged relationships with other women. Following this, she decided to approach the police and lodge a complaint.
The allegations in the case are currently based on the complaint and the claims mentioned in the FIR. The truth and legal validity of these allegations will be determined through the investigation and judicial proceedings.
FIR Mentions 19 Sections
The FIR registered in the case reportedly mentions 19 sections. According to the complaint, one of the alleged incidents took place in Delhi on April 2, 2026.
The complainant has alleged that Porel prevented her from going to a particular place and did not provide her with sufficient food. She has further claimed that she was deliberately isolated from other people, following which her physical condition deteriorated and she faced difficulty walking.
Police are investigating these allegations and examining the circumstances surrounding the complaint. No final conclusion regarding the allegations can be drawn until the investigation and court proceedings are completed.
Court Directs Police to Seize Electronic Devices
The Calcutta High Court has reportedly issued directions not only concerning Porel’s arrest but also regarding the protection of the complainant’s privacy.
The court directed that photographs or videos allegedly connected to the complainant should not be circulated. Police have also been directed to seize Porel’s electronic devices.
Investigators are expected to examine the devices for any information, messages, photographs, videos or other digital evidence that may be relevant to the case.
Porel was detained and questioned by police on Tuesday before the formal arrest process was completed. After undergoing a medical examination, he was produced before the court.
Abhishek Porel’s Cricket Career
Abhishek Porel is a wicketkeeper-batter who represents Bengal in domestic cricket and plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He came into the Delhi Capitals setup in 2023 when Rishabh Pant was unavailable. Since then, Porel has established himself as part of the franchise’s batting and wicketkeeping options.
