Indian cinema has earned global recognition as ‘Homebound’, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has been shortlisted in the Top 15 films for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards. The film stars Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa in lead roles.

Out of hundreds of international entries, only 15 films have made it to this shortlist, making the selection of Homebound a significant achievement for Indian cinema. The film had earlier received an overwhelming response at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a nine-minute standing ovation after its screening. Following this global acclaim, the film has now secured a place among the top contenders for Oscars 2026.

Homebound was officially sent as India’s entry for the 98th Academy Awards. The final list of five nominated films will be announced on January 22, 2026. The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026, and will once again be hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien.

Along with Homebound, other shortlisted films in the International Feature Film category include Argentina’s “Belen”, Brazil’s “The Secret Agent”, France’s “It Was Just an Accident”, Germany’s “Sound of Falling”, Iraq’s “The President Cake”, Japan’s “Kokuho”, Jordan’s “All That’s Left of You”, Norway’s “Sentiment Value”, “36 from Palestine”, South Korea’s “No Other Choice”, Spain’s “Sairat”, Switzerland’s “Late Shift”, Taiwan’s “Left-Handed Girl”, and Tunisia’s “The Voice of Hind Rajab”.
