Pledge for Concerted Efforts Towards a Traffic-Congestion-Free PMR
A firm decision has been taken to collectively pursue solutions for the escalating traffic congestion and infrastructure challenges facing the Hinjawadi IT Hub and the Talegaon-Chakan-Khed industrial belt. At the initiative of BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, detailed discussions were held with representatives from the ‘Unlock Hinjawadi’ campaign, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Housing Societies Federation, the Forum for IT Employees, the Chakan MIDC Entrepreneurs’ Association, and the Traffic-Free Chakan Action Committee.

The Hinjawadi IT Hub and the Talegaon-Chakan-Khed industrial belt serve as a vital backbone for the economic development of the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR). However, traffic congestion in the area is becoming increasingly severe due to inadequate road infrastructure, a rising number of vehicles, hurdles in land acquisition, encroachments, and a lack of administrative coordination. MLA Landge emphasized the need for long-term, concerted measures to ensure that industry, employment, and investment are not adversely affected.
A meeting regarding this issue had previously been scheduled in June 2025 in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. At that time, the Chief Minister had appointed the Divisional Commissioner as the ‘Nodal Officer’ for the matter. Subsequently, the administration initiated certain measures to streamline traffic flow. However, it was pointed out during the meeting that many projects failed to gain the expected momentum due to issues such as land acquisition, encroachments, technical difficulties, and sluggishness at the administrative level. Sachin Londhe, Jaydev Akkalkote, Pavanjit Mane, Prashant Tope, Sachin Siddhe, Kunal Kad, Pratik Jadhav, Nikhil Kadam, Prashant Gore, Niwas Mane, and others were present at the meeting.
A Comprehensive Vision for an ‘Industrial Township’
There is a need for the planned development of the Talegaon-Chakan-Khed industrial belt—including Hinjawadi—as an ‘Industrial Township,’ rather than merely addressing its traffic issues. It was argued during the meeting that creating an integrated plan covering essential roads, public transport, electricity, water supply, civic amenities, and traffic management could significantly boost industries and employment in the region.
Proposal to Form a Non-Political Committee
Since the traffic issue concerns citizens, workers, entrepreneurs, and the administration alike—rather than being the sole domain of any single party or organization—a proposal was put forward to establish a non-political coordination committee chaired by a nodal officer. It was decided that this committee would regularly review pending projects and follow up on the pace of work, quality standards, and necessary land acquisition.
Follow-up Meeting with the Chief Minister
It was resolved to hold another meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the key points raised in this meeting. Emphasis was also placed on raising public awareness regarding land acquisition for proposed roads, increasing the strength of traffic police and wardens, and ensuring coordinated follow-up through collaboration between Gram Panchayats and other local self-government bodies.

1. Formulating concrete measures to address traffic congestion in IT and industrial zones.
2. Proposal to establish a non-political coordination committee chaired by a nodal officer.
3. Holding a follow-up meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
4. Implementing regular quality control and monitoring the pace of ongoing projects. 5. Accelerating the land acquisition process for proposed roads.
6. Following up on increasing the manpower of traffic police and wardens.
7. Preparing a joint action plan by fostering coordination between Gram Panchayats and local self-government bodies.
