PCMC Declares School Holiday on July 7 Amid Red Alert
Pimpri Chinchwad: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced a holiday for all schools and Anganwadis on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Red Alert warning for extremely heavy rainfall across the region.
The decision was issued by Sangeeta Bangar, Administrative Officer of the Primary Education Department, with the primary objective of safeguarding students as intense rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours.
Holiday Applies to All Educational Institutions
The order covers every educational institution functioning within the PCMC limits, including:
- Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools
- English and all other mediums of instruction
- Municipal (PCMC), Private Aided, Unaided and Self-Financed Schools
- All Government Anganwadis
Students have been instructed to remain at home as a precautionary measure due to the possibility of waterlogging, flooding, and other rain-related emergencies.
Decision Based on IMD Red Alert
The school closure follows directions issued by the Pune District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) after the IMD forecast warned of widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Pune district.
The civic administration stated that the move is aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring the safety of schoolchildren during the severe weather conditions.
School Staff Must Report for Duty
While students have been granted a holiday, the PCMC has clarified that headmasters, teachers, and non-teaching staff are required to remain present at their respective schools during regular working hours.
The administration has directed school staff to stay prepared for any disaster management, emergency response, or relief work assigned by the local administration and the District Disaster Management Cell.
Strict Compliance Ordered
The circular warns that all educational institutions must implement the order without exception. The PCMC has stated that any violation of the directive will be viewed seriously, and strict action may follow against institutions failing to comply.
