Mumbai-Pune Missing Link Closed After Slab Collapse

The Mumbai-Pune Missing Link project has suffered a major setback after a section of its slab collapsed following continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days. Water from the surrounding hills is now flowing directly into the tunnel, forcing authorities to shut the Missing Link for traffic until further notice.

The latest incident has once again raised serious questions over the construction quality of the multi-crore infrastructure project. Earlier, portions of the asphalt surface had reportedly peeled off, and now the slab collapse has added to concerns over the project’s durability during the monsoon.

The ongoing heavy rains have also severely affected transport across the Mumbai-Pune corridor. Railway tracks near Lonavala have been damaged, leading to the suspension of train services between Mumbai and Pune.

Road traffic has also taken a major hit. A landslide has disrupted movement on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, while another landslide on the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway forced authorities to close that route on Monday morning.

With the Missing Link, Expressway, railway services, and the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway all facing disruptions, commuters are experiencing massive delays and travel chaos across one of Maharashtra’s busiest transport corridors.
