Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rain as Orange Alert Issued

Heavy rainfall continued to lash Mumbai for the fourth consecutive day, disrupting normal life and triggering waterlogging in several low-lying areas. With the downpour showing no signs of easing, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall over the next three hours.

Overnight showers flooded several parts of Mumbai, affecting traffic movement during the morning rush hour. Civic authorities have urged residents to step out only if necessary as weather conditions are expected to worsen.

Heavy Rain Pounds Mumbai

Rainfall remained intense throughout Thursday and continued overnight across both the city and suburbs. Western suburbs, including Andheri, Kandivali, Goregaon, Borivali, and Dahisar, recorded particularly heavy showers.

Waterlogging was reported in parts of Dadar, slowing vehicular movement, while Mulund and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) also witnessed persistent rainfall.

According to official rainfall data recorded between 8:00 AM Thursday and 7:00 AM Friday:

  • Mumbai City recorded an average of 114 mm rainfall.
  • Eastern suburbs received 102 mm.
  • Western suburbs recorded 109 mm.

IMD Warns of More Heavy Rain

The IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad over the next three hours under the Orange Alert.

The weather system continues to impact the Konkan coastline and North Konkan region, where several areas are witnessing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Authorities have warned that prolonged rain may further disrupt daily life in vulnerable locations.

Orange and Red Alerts Ahead

The IMD has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the region until Sunday.

  • Orange Alert: Mumbai and Palghar.
  • Red Alert on Saturday: Thane district for extremely heavy rainfall.

Residents have been advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

  • Malabar Hill – 146 mm
  • Fort – 139 mm
  • Andheri – 136 mm
  • Versova – 129 mm
  • Powai – 124 mm

  • Bhandup – 116 mm
  • Mulund – 115 mm
