The occasion became even more special as the award was presented on June 23, the same date on which Rohit made his international debut 19 years ago. The celebrated opener had debuted for India on June 23, 2007, in an ODI against Ireland in Belfast. Nearly two decades later, he was honoured with one of India’s highest civilian awards for his remarkable achievements in the sport.
Rohit Sharma is regarded as one of the most successful captains and batters in modern cricket. Under his leadership, India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, while he also guided the team to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
