Vijay Unveils Powerful Tamil Nadu Cabinet Team
CM Joseph Vijay Keeps Home, Urban Development & Welfare Portfolios; Young Faces Get Key Ministries In Bold Governance Push
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has officially announced the cabinet portfolio allocation just days after securing a massive victory in the Assembly confidence motion. The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government received the support of 144 MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, further strengthening Vijay’s grip on power and signaling the beginning of an aggressive governance model in the state.
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has retained several heavyweight departments under his direct control, including Public Administration, Home Affairs, Municipal Administration, Urban Development, Water Supply, Women and Child Welfare, Special Programme Implementation, and Welfare of Senior Citizens and Differently-Abled citizens. The move clearly indicates Vijay’s intent to maintain tight control over administration, law and order, and urban infrastructure.

The newly formed cabinet reflects a mix of experienced leaders and young political faces. N. Anand has been assigned the Rural Development and Water Resources Ministry, while Aadhav Arjun will handle Public Works and Sports Development. Dr. K.G. Arunraj has been given charge of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, a crucial portfolio amid growing healthcare demands in the state.
Senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan has been appointed as Finance Minister, while R. Nirmalkumar will oversee Energy Resources and Law. Rajmohan has been entrusted with School Education, Tamil Development, Information and Public Relations. In addition, he will supervise archaeology, Tamil culture, film technology, government printing, and related departments.

One of the biggest talking points from the cabinet expansion is the appointment of 29-year-old TVK MLA S. Keerthana as Industries Minister. The young leader from Sivakasi has become one of the most discussed political faces in Tamil Nadu after creating history as the constituency’s first woman MLA.
After winning the election, S. Keerthana had drawn massive attention for speaking in Hindi during a public interaction. Defending her decision, she had said she chose Hindi “so that our leader’s message reaches more people and is understood widely.” Her statement had sparked political discussions in Tamil Nadu, where debates over Hindi imposition remain highly sensitive.

Now, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has handed her the powerful Industries portfolio, placing major responsibility on her shoulders to attract investments and strengthen Tamil Nadu’s industrial growth. Keerthana, a postgraduate and former political consultant, has previously worked with several senior political leaders, including former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
During her election campaign in Sivakasi, Keerthana strongly focused on development, public safety, healthcare infrastructure, and welfare measures for workers in the fireworks industry. She highlighted the lack of emergency facilities and promised insurance protection, equal wages for women, regular health check-ups, and better treatment facilities for workers exposed to hazardous chemicals.
Speaking after her victory, Keerthana had firmly stated that she would fulfill every promise made during the election campaign, reinforcing her image as one of TVK’s emerging young leaders.
