CarryMinati | A junior civil court has restrained YouTuber Ajey Nagar, popularly known as CarryMinati, from publishing defamatory, obscene, or objectionable content against Bollywood producer-director Karan Johar on social media. The court has also directed that all related videos targeting Karan Johar be immediately removed from social media platforms.

Karan Johar had filed a defamation suit against Ajey Nagar. The matter was heard in the court of Civil Judge P. G. Bhosale. During the hearing, Karan Johar alleged that he was mocked through videos circulated on social media and that attempts were made to tarnish his reputation. He sought immediate removal of all such videos and related content.

On the other hand, counsel representing Ajey Nagar argued that the concerned videos and content had already been removed, and therefore no further action was necessary.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court observed prima facie that defamatory material had been published against Karan Johar by Nagar and other defendants and that inappropriate language had been used. Accordingly, the court issued an interim order restraining Ajey Nagar from publishing any objectionable or defamatory content against Karan Johar on social media in the future.

The decision has once again brought into discussion the balance between freedom of expression on social media and the protection of an individual’s reputation.
